Refine Gold Like a Pro – With Borax (Sodium Borate)

Our high-purity Borax (Sodium Borate) is a proven and effective fluxing agent for melting and refining gold, silver, and other precious metals. This is ideal for jewelers, metal casters, prospectors, and small-scale refiners who want a clean, high-yield melt every time.

🔬 Why Use Borax in Gold Refining?

Fluxing Agent
Borax melts and combines with impurities and metal oxides during the smelting process, forming an easily removable slag that leaves behind clean, pure metal.

Lowers Melting Point
Borax significantly reduces the melting temperature of gold ore and concentrates, making the refining process more energy-efficient and accessible — even with small furnaces or torches.

Oxidation Protection
Forms a protective layer over molten metal to prevent oxidation and metal loss during heating.

Essential in the Borax Method
Used in mercury-free gold refining, especially in artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM). It’s a safer alternative to toxic chemicals while still producing high-purity gold.

How to Use GTE Jeweler’s Grade Borax

For Soldering & Flux Use

Mix a small amount of borax with water to create a thin paste or slurry.

Apply directly to the solder joint or metal surface before heating.

Heat as normal. The borax will melt and form a protective barrier, reducing oxidation and firescale while allowing solder to flow cleanly.

Rinse thoroughly after cooling.

For Seasoning & Glazing Ceramic Crucibles

Proper seasoning extends crucible life and prevents metal from sticking.

Place a small amount of dry borax into the crucible.

Heat gently with a torch until the borax melts and turns glassy.

Tilt and rotate the crucible so the molten borax coats the entire interior surface, including the pouring lip.

Allow to cool completely before use.

This creates a sealed, glass-like layer that protects the ceramic and improves metal flow during melting.
