Applications:

 Gold Refining:

• Sulfamic acid plays a critical post-dissolution role in gold refining. After gold is dissolved in aqua regia (a mix of nitric and hydrochloric acids), excess nitric acid must be removed before gold can be recovered. Sulfamic acid reacts with and neutralizes this excess nitric acid—an essential step to allow for successful gold precipitation using a reducing agent like sodium metabisulfite (SMB).
